A way out? Have you met Jack Daniels? I didn't buy the book. But I want to pick up on this:

Quote
Man is inherently a "religious being"

I would say, after Jung, that people inherently try to project iconic archetypal forms onto their experiences. This gives life a partially numinous quality, depending on the fit. This then leads to a certain level misplaced reverence for the referent; they or it becomes “larger than life.” Therein lies the ‘evil’ which is really just ignorance or, in this case, perhaps more properly termed as a blind spot. A large potion of the mental picture has been filled in by the archetype. If the fit is bad then it’s a distorted picture at best and a dangerous delusion at worst. IOW we create evil by supplementing our experience with pre-formed templates (archetypes) that distort our subjective experience of the referent (i.e. that object onto which we’ve projected the archetype). People say ‘love is blind’ and this is a reflection of the process. The projected anima makes the referent (the beloved) appear, not as they really are, but instead with the numinous properties of the anima. Usually the fit is bad, in my experience. But the whole thing is addicting, this type of projection of archetypes, and the numinous feelings associated with it, give life more sparkle. But all that glitters is not gold. What goes up…etc.

Yes this is the central issue we are facing as a species at present is detaching from the archetypal matrix of our own minds. That is becoming conscious of the mechanism of consciousness while in the act. How to keep the enchantment and mystery alive when one is hip to ones own prior ordained lens of perception...I am not sure. I think it is a progression, like the hero's journey. First there is enmeshment with the projection of the archetype...a heady drug-like fixation and motivation. Then there is the fall and disllusionment as one realizes that one is projecting pictures on Plato's cave wall. Then one picks up the pieces and moves on to essentially play as both ones own director and actor in a conscious game of mystery unfolding...happy at last to be "in" the drama but not "of" it. Sad Angry Huh? blush bow nope laugh ROFL

“The creative activity of imagination frees man from his bondage to the “nothing but” and raises him to the status of one who plays. As Schiller says, man is completely human only when he is at play.” 98, The Practice of Psychotherapy, Jung

If imagination is the key to our spiritual and creative evolution and the archetypal matrix of preconceived symbols, attachments, aversions and prejudices tends to narrow the breadth of thought, dream and experience…then how are we to get out of the box of ourself and culture? When you think about it, we are not usually given formal training in social grace, mediation, negotiation and social organizing skills even though we are by nature the most social animal on earth. Also we are not given as a matter of course, formal education on the art of thought and imagination, and yet we are the most thinking and imaginative animal on the planet. It appears therefore that our education from infancy to college needs to be overhauled into systems that are based on the progression of the Hero’s Journey. That is progressive rationalization and creative use of symbol, myth and story…a gestalt of the panoply of the human psyche, intertwined with the science of the cosmos. Through applied use of the imagination like this, we are no longer restricted to the metaphysical palette of past and present cultures, but can weave and create our own personal inner landscape through conscious application of the “mind-making and self-making faculties.” In this way the dream becomes reality, and reality is but a dream.

If we passively accept the given reality in order to “fit in” and not rock the boat, then there is little scope for the build up of creative tension which heralds in the new. Instead of providing creative encouragement and enrichment for our children we give them drugs to subdue the symptoms of their distress. Thereby forfeiting yet another means by which the natural evolution inherent in life-systems is able to bring about awareness, change and healing. The infant in us is so needing to “belong” that we sacrifice our bodies, minds and children to pathological systems of social control…instead of changing the foundations and premises of that thing we call civilization into forms which support the growth of healthy, whole children. The root of this laxity to awaken to the grand mechanisms of our demise is that we have been socialized into conformity over thousands of years…we have yet to fully recognize that which we are trying to fit into, is void of real value and is killing us.

We remain addicted to outer authority, scared of operating alone within the confines of our own freedom, because we have not yet become conscious of our consciousness and the lens we use to see our world. If we could see ourselves and how we use external prestige, power and possessions in order to compete with others to feel secure. Then we would understand that this projection of our power onto external objects is the foundations of culture itself. Civilization is structurally set up such that it thwarts the possibility of actual happiness, self-esteem and genius of its citizens. The big political buzzword these days is security…but it is not outer security we are really after. What we are really after in our posturing is “inner security,’ through self-realization and self-esteem, both on the scale of the individual and of nations. But we will never ever achieve this inner security so long as we project our power onto a deity, leader, usurper, tyrant, enemy, boss or ideology. Projection of ones power and powers onto an external source, whether it be another person or a metaphysical phantom, creates dominant/submissive, pyramidal chemistry in the brain by which we suppress the vast percentage of our capacities and potential. It is that tendency to subvert our will for a real or fictitious “other” that is the short circuit in our entire hominid neurological experiment. We can never come into whole person functioning when we abdicate our soul in submission to the dark controlling forces of our human collective nature.

Yes and we abdicate our soul in submission to these dark forces by keeping them in the unconscious and avoiding direct conscious engagement with them. They continue to haunt us and disable our endeavors as a consequence of their being unconscious. We cannot effectively counter what we cannot see and we should rarely try to directly counter what we do see. Make the dark forces conscious, then work with or around them.

We’re addicted to outer authority because we want to let the outer authority deal with the dark forces for us. It’s easier than confronting the dark forces ourselves and it’s the socially sanctioned way to live. So we have this social contract: the external authority will protect us from the negative effects of the dark forces and we will give unquestioned obedience to their whims.

Part of the problem is that, as soon as someone starts to master the dark forces, all these people come around, willing to hand over their free will in exchange for keeping those forces under control for them. They want to surrender their own free will in exchange for ‘protection’ So no one gets very far in mastering these things for themselves before they gain all kinds of power over others and thus get distracted, usually power-drunk.

Much of what actually appears good (for our security addiction and fear of death) has a dark component. The entire structure of civilization for example is steeped in darkness and ignorance...insurance, western medicine, banking, politics, wars, jobs, supermarkets, industrial farming.
Eventually culture will change towards that which feeds our higher consciousness and moral uplift, but not without a change in our own species sensitivity, away from this self fulfilling decay, deadening, dumbing, disease process.

I have been thinking of how to live happily within the belly of the beast, for there is a lot of good here too. In order to do this, I have to become the example of that thing which is trans-pyramid and high biogenic. To not be emotionally and spirituality undone by the surrounding culture, one has to be transcendent of it, and therefore immune to the lower energies, lower thoughts and behaviors. So this means we cannot sacrifice ourselves to the beast, but must live the good life which we seek.

It does mean questioning everything we have absorbed from the collective, and stripping our sense of union with Universe back to its core essentials. Take for example the socalled spiritual act of burning incense or sage. These rituals probably arose in times when we lived in stinky caves, or over populated slums, and so in that environment they would have acted to mask the negative of the putrid conditions. Now however when the air is already pure, they form an act of pollution. So in this sense they take away from the prior wholeness of harmonic coherence with the All.

Since Spirit is faster than light speed, is omnipotent, omnipresent and omnibenevolent, ritual acts of reconciliation and reunification are superfluous. Spirit cannot be lied to, for it is one with the lifeforce, primary perception and the all knowing field of intelligence. Spirit would be far happier with us, if we made a compost heap, planted a garden, wrote a letter to our mother or fed a homeless person...than all the prayers, incense burning, mala twerling, in all of human history. Thus we have to reexamine what it means to be "spiritual," and to not simple ape traditions that no longer serve the wellbeing of life and the growth of awareness.

The defining, refining question we must ask of ourselves always is, how can wrong ideas and habits be spiritual?

"In essence, culture is the sum of all technology and values that make up human life. The definition of culture changes relative to how we interpret human life and human values. If we define human life as mere physical existence and if we base our value system on nothing more than ego-satisfaction, our culture is barbaric regardless of how technologically advanced we might be." If we base our lens of perceiving the world on nothing more than ego and materialism, then we are likely to be life-negative and depressed. The life-negative stance is angry, negating and defines the self by the negative, of what we don't want. Life-positive orientation involves defining choices by what one "wants" rather than in resistance, rebellion, revulsion, reaction and response to what one doesn't want. We heal the world by healing our perception, for we cannot be a healing force in the world from the life-negative position, for even our cells are not happy within the field of critical dismissal. Grasping the subtle nature of the inner-outer dynamic of Janus is fundamental in creating a "We-space" world, rather than an Us-versus-them world.

Thus we must "choose" what we love as our primary choice and ultimate goal to move from a reactive orientation to the proactive and creative. The creativity specialist, Robert Fritz reminds us that we must choose the "results" we want, rather than merely setting about a process. Formally choosing desired results sets up structural tension, with the vision being a great attractor. Thought, subconscious and action are then mobilized and focused, and Universe can respond specifically and spontaneously according to the passion in the will of desire. If we have not made specific choices in life, it just happens around one erratically and willy-nilly. If we succeed out of fear of failure, we cannot enjoy our success and it doesn't nurture us. The life-positive choice therefore is the only viable solution to human existence.

"When you make a formal choice, you activate the seeds of germination. You align all the energies at your disposal and set them in motion toward your choice. You initiate the first stage of the creative cycle...As you choose what you want, you release germinational energy, which enables you to move in the direction you want to go." 176-181, The Path of Least Resistance, Robert Fritz

Yes, but the point is which vantage point, which lens are we making our choice from? The unintegrated conditioned left-brain that enslaves us to endless utilitarian dry wrenching function. Or the juicy creative right-brain that likes to propel us into the depths of our archetypal drama in order to exorcise our damion and demons. I like to follow my dreams, as they are closer to the groove of the cosmos than my waking state.

"Exteriorly man’s being has many different sides: activity or passivity;
truthfulness or a tendency to lie; sincerity or insincerity; courage, cowardice;
self-control, profligacy; irritability, egoism, readiness for self-sacrifice, pride, vanity, conceit, industry, laziness, morality, depravity; all these and much more besides make up the being of man.

"But all this is entirely mechanical in man. If he lies it means that he cannot help
lying. If he tells the truth it means that he cannot help telling the truth, and so it is
with everything. Everything happens, a man can do nothing either in himself or
outside himself. But of course there are limits and bounds. Generally speaking, the being of a modern man is of very inferior quality. But it can be of such bad quality that no change is possible. This must always be remembered. People whose being can still be changed are very lucky. But there are people who are definitely diseased, broken machines with whom nothing can be done. And such people are in the majority. If you think of this you will understand why only few can receive real knowledge. Their being prevents it.

"Generally speaking, the balance between knowledge and being is even more
important than a separate development of either one or the other. And a separate
development of knowledge or of being is not desirable in any way. Although it is
precisely this one-sided development that often seems particularly attractive to
people."If knowledge outweighs being a man knows but has no power to do. It is useless knowledge. On the other hand if being outweighs knowledge a man has the power to do, but does not know, that is, he can do something but does not know what to do. The being he has acquired becomes aimless and efforts made to attain it prove to be useless. "In the history of humanity there are known many examples when entire civilizations have perished because knowledge outweighed being or being outweighed knowledge." "What are the results of the development of the line of knowledge without being, or the development of the line of being without knowledge?" someone asked during a talk upon this subject.
"The development of the line of knowledge without the line of being gives a weak
yogi," said G., "that is to say, a man who knows a great deal but can do nothing, a man who does not understand" (he emphasized these words) "what he knows, a man without appreciation, that is, a man for whom there is no difference between one kind of knowledge and an other. And the development of the line of being without knowledge gives a stupid saint, that is, a man who can do a great deal but who does not know what to do or with what object; and if he does anything he acts in obedience to his subjective feelings which may lead him greatly astray and cause him to commit grave mistakes, that is, actually to do the opposite of what he wants. In either case both the weak yogi and the stupid saint are brought to a standstill. Neither the one nor the other can develop further. ~ Ouspensky ISOM

Brilliant...but shit, what to do, I am both a weak yogi and stupid saint. laugh

Perhaps if we work to change the subconscious programming, we could be a strong yogi (effective) and a wise saint (affective).

Well, not to worry, the inner marriage combines the power to do of the one and the wisdom to understand of the other, then we get the whole enchilada. Unstoppable.

Inner marriage work...upright walking and attraction meditation...my latest most sensational finds, do give one the strength of sovereignty to make self nurturing decisions.

This morning I dreamt I was in an insane community...the last scene of which was a guy whose penis was a bulldog which he was blowing up larger and larger, only to get a chainsaw to chop it off...I left the village on seeing his intension. The young woman I was with wanted to turn back to help once the chainsaw started up, but I was adamant that there was nothing we could do.

This is a major step in the development of Psyche (soul) when one admits the limits of ones helping/fixing abilities and chooses to vacate the situation. Even if we may know all the answers, we still cannot always impart our healing and there are times when we must let Kali have her way with the destructive cycle. Mature awareness understands that there is goodness even greater than saving everyone from themselves. And that putting ones own goodness in the line of danger, doesn't necessarily make one a saint, but it can make one stupid and dead.

The image of Kali chopping up the universe gives me the creeps, frankly. Something I may need to integrate? If it bothers me that’s a sign that there is something there.

"Moving on can mean a physical change such as leaving a job, location or relationship. It can also mean an inner change - releasing old patterns, especially those that have dominated our thoughts and emotions. On the Eight of Cups, we see a man leaving on a journey. He has turned away from his old feelings (cups/river) to strike out on a new path. Sometimes moving on can mean searching for a deeper truth or reality. One day we wake up and realize that we have been asleep in our own lives - living a dream that no longer satisfies.
Some changes can be wearying. Endings are not always easy. One of the signs of a readiness to leave is lack of energy. When you feel tired and dispirited, you know that something is wrong, and it's time for a new direction. Reexamine your life and your priorities. You will find where in your life you need to move on.  ~ http://www.learntarot.com/c8.htm

One  might ask, where is "Kali" in the Tarot? I guess in a way, the idea is spread out among the whole suit of swords. With the queen of swords being the closest image to that one above. Being so expanded in this way, the idea really gets a more fair hearing. http://www.learntarot.com/swords.htm
