I guess some feminists, singles and even married people hate Valentines day. Take your chocolate, roses and kisses and stick them where the moon doesn't shine? We could say Happy mean red meme day!

It is important for men to remember that, as women grow older, it becomes harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping as when they were younger.

When you notice this, try not to yell at them. Some are oversensitive, and there's nothing worse than an oversensitive woman.

 

My name is Bob. Let me relate how I handled the situation with my wife, Debbie. When I took "early retirement" last year, it became necessary for Debbie to get a full-time job along with her part-time job, both for extra income and for the health benefits that we needed.

 

Shortly after she started working, I noticed she was beginning to show her age. I usually get home from the golf course about the same time she gets home from work.

 

Although she knows how hungry I am, she almost always says she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts dinner. I don't yell at her. Instead, I tell her to take her time and just wake me when she gets dinner on the table. I generally have lunch in the Men's Grill at the club so eating out is not reasonable. I'm ready for some home cooked grub when I hit that door.

 

She used to do the dishes as soon as we finished eating. But now it's not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after dinner. I do what I can by diplomatically reminding her several times each evening that they won't clean themselves. I know she really appreciates this, as it does seem to motivate her to get them done before she goes to bed.

 

Another symptom of aging is complaining, I think. For example she will say that it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her lunch hour. But, boys, we take 'em for better or worse, so I just smile and offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two or even three days. That way she won't have to rush so much. I also remind her that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn't hurt her any (if you know what I mean). I like to think tact is one of my strong points.

 

When doing simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more rest periods. She had to take a break when she was only half finished mowing the yard. I try not to make a scene. I'm a fair man. I tell her to fix herself a nice, big, cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while. And, as long as she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me too.

 

I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Debbie. I'm not saying that showing this much consideration is easy. Any men will find it difficult. Some will find it impossible! Nobody knows better than I do how frustrating women get as they get older.

 

However, guys, even if you just use a little more tact and less criticism of your aging wife because of this article, I will consider that writing it was well worthwhile.

 

After all, we are put on this earth to help each other.....

Bob died suddenly on May 27th 2006.

The police report says that he was found with a Calloway extra-long 50-inch 'Big Bertha' Driver II golf club rammed up his ass, with only 2 inches of grip showing.

 

His wife Debbie was arrested and charged with murder; however, the all-woman jury found her Not Guilty, accepting her defence that he accidentally sat down on it...

I think Bob and his golf club could have kept each other somewhat less intimate company if Debbie had pack up her bags some years before the event.

But agreed, some men should look before they sit down.

I guess the message of the Valentines card posted was that the giver of the card, and probably the recipient do not need men to feel important or to validate their existence. Personally, I would never expect a woman to feel that way in the first place (that she needed me i.e. male, to feel validated). If she did feel that way towards me, then it would be a case of shadow projection, another whipping boy for feminist rage, because I just don't have it in me to harbour that type of attitude towards women. Choices, we all have choices to make every day in our lives. I just don't swallow this stuff when I work under female authority figures all the time, I understand it though.
It does leave me a little bewildered however, isn't the dance between a woman and a man, the male/female types an expression of one enhancing the other? The "need" to be "completed" or "enhanced" is easily translated into "the hell with you, I don't need anyone to validate me!" Then it becomes a little schizophrenic when it's "I don't need you to validate me, but I need you." 

I asked my wife what she thought of the card, she said "Nothing. Valentines day really means nothing to me, I didn't grow up with it in my country (Argentina). I adopted it when I moved to the U.S." "Christmas, Birthdays and events like V-Day are the most stressful time in my life. It's crazy the way it is in this country and takes all the joy out of it. Do you know it will cost us $500 to have a birthday for Alexis to take 15 kids to the movies. That's insane. So stressful, takes all the happiness away from it"

I dated women that if you did not give a card, roses or candy, wine, etc. then you were out on your ear without a date (and out good sex for that day). So I don't know, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't as a male these days. I guess you just need to be sensitive to the individual needs of the woman you are with. And what's up with this focus on females on V-Day anyway? Why don't the men get more attention? Turn the tables and you gals can bring us cards, wine and out for dinner (many male egos would not tolerate it and many female egos would be repulsed by it).

Honestly, it's a collective mass level romantic sentiment. Why get uptight? If you hate V-day, then don't celebrate! You know, give a card that says "Love Stinks" and have a good laugh!

The best memories I have of V-Day is not any love relationship, but when I was a kid at school when we all would exchange our little Valentines cards to each other and that wink from Sally in 4th grade from the front row.

There would be no problem with this Saints Day or its sinful celebrants if the detractors were all blessed with being part of an aventura amarosa with a most delicious, loving, wise, beautiful, witty, grounded, sensitive, perceptive, generous, courageous, accomplished and desirable Greek Yogini whose accent on the English language sounds like Salma Hayek?s.

I have no problem with this Saints Day?
