Hi all,

As some of you may already know, IV was hacked again.  This time I was spared the total trashing I got last time.  So I count my blessings.  They could have trashed the forum again.  In case you're interested, this is the homepage they left on IV (minus some sensitive server info and some embedded music).

This is also very discouraging and alarming for these reasons:

1. I thought I had the system secure from the last time, and now it's obvious that it isn't.

2. If they can access IV, they can trash this forum again, as well as the Integral Wiki.

3. I don't really have the time to try to figure out how this is done.  I do know it is based on security flaws the software running IV called "geeklog".  I no longer use geeklog, but have switched to drupal as my content management platform of choice, for new sites I build.  But I can't easily just copy over the 203 articles on IV to a new drupal installation.  I sure wish I could since drupal is a much better, and more secure platform.  But I'm pretty much stuck with what I've got there...

So after thinking it through a bit, I think it best if I move this forum to a different server, and just let IV be vulnerable, and hope for the best with it.  As far as IV is concerned, I can simply keep it backed up, and restore it if/when it gets trashed again.  This is do-able because there is very little new content coming online there anymore.  At this point, it serves mostly as a repository.

Heartmind on the other hand, is changing content pretty much daily, so it absolutely needs to be secure.  So i will be working on the switchover in the next few days, as time permits.  I will post an announcement here just prior to the transfer, because the forum will be offline for a while, and will need to be tested afterwards.

I will also be switching other sites around, within my server structure for the same security reasons, including Jana's.

Thanks for your patience.

Michael

Well the news is that the forum is now on a new server.  Please let me know here if you experience any problems.  Such as logging in or images not showing or anything else.

In case you can't log in, please email me here:

BTW - If you have been using the RSS newsfeed to keep track of new posts here, the URL has changed.  It is now http://heartmind.us/index.php?type=rss;action=.xml

when i saw that IV had been hacked i started going to HM thru the IV front door.  now that it's fixed maybe a note on IV page that there's been a server change on HM might be in order, to let people know who accessed HM thru a favorite...  just an idea...

Hi Henry and Jim,

I'll see if I can send emails to members about the change.  And I posted a notice at the top of the IV frontpage.

Thanks for the ideas guys...

Your email got me, Michael - nearly got lost in my spam filter though. whew!!

Hi everybody.

Nice to be in touch, live, with IV again. I am bored already with lurking at IN watching the Helene problem unfold. What a mess that was. I can hardly believe she was finally banned.

IN/Multiplex is a mere shadow of its former self. I didn't leave IN because of Helene though (however, I might have if I had stayed on). I left IN out of disgust at and disappointment over Ken's Wyatt Earp meltdown.

IMHO that was the end of any hope for KW mustering any credibility in the scientific/academic community in general. But, of course KW couldn't care less about being alienated from same (that's what he says/implies anyway).

Glad your email found me Michael.

Just finished Douglas Hofstadter's new book, I Am a Strange Loop, a great read!

Hey Bob,

Nice to see you again.  Are you in the dessert now?

I guess we all had our reasons for leaving IN.  Helen was low on my list for leaving.  For me, it was more about intolerence and elitism's ugly side.

There's a good recent article on Integral World that seems to speak to a lot of disillusionment re: Ken and the IN crowd:
http://www.integralworld.net/parker.html

I love Doug Hofstadter's work, and would love to read that book.  He's got a great and original mind.

Right now, I'm almost finished with an audio version of Al Gore's The Assault on Reason.  A very good read IMO, which seems to sum up very succinctly so much that has been bothering me about media and the fall of democracy in America.  He does a damn fine scholarly job with this one...

Hey, Michael.

Nice heads up on the Integral World stuff. Its nice to know others have had to adjust after being so taken with Ken's stuff only to be finally disappointed, disillusioned, or worse.

I've never read any books written by a politician -- I might do so now -- Gore is different. Yeah, Strange Loop is a good one. Some of these AI/phil. of mind types allude or cite the dharma, Hofstadter being one. I wouldn't be surprised to bump into D.H., Minsky, or Dan Dennett in some Zendo somewhere some day.

Yes, in the desert every weekend, every holiday. Just a two hour drive. Cloudy last night, so I didn't get the telescope out, but I had fun with my tripod-mounted 25x100 giant binocs looking with my freshman-in-college daughter at the moon, Jupiter and its moons, and red Antares in Scorpio.

On your cms-security problems and being hacked -- my sympathy, and, my admiration for your carrying on anyway. I used Mambo up until recently. Now I am using Wordpress.org's setup on a host server. Really great for my personal site. For my pics I use Coppermine Gallery. I started to use Wordpress for a website I'm dedicating to Philosophy of Mind stuff, and I might keep with it. Mambo was ok, but  I think it takes too many steps to post content: create section, create category, then create content. But it is pretty good; but I'm leaving it and Joomla behind. I'm not experienced with Drupal, more robust than Mambo/Joomla I'll bet.

I'm going to give Content Management System Made Simple (CMSMS) a quick try before abandoning Wordpress for my Phil.of Mind site. Wordpress allows static pages so that the blog format is subordinate to the static, informational content, so it,WP, might still be ok.

I enjoy playing around with the stuff -- slowly learning php, js, css, and mysql -- a hobby.

Later, Bob
